That is the beauty of the Algonquin Inn location and accommodations with gas stations both five minutes before and after us on high way 60, great for Cars and Snowmobiles alike. Photographers - Photo Workshops Algonquin Inn

This last week has been perfect for photography, Ethan Meleg certainly thought so and brought with him a photographic workshop to capture the fall colours, as well as Algonquin Park's misty sunrises and spectacular sunsets. Don't be surprised to see Ethan returning with other photographic workshops, if his schedule permits he has expressed an interest in returning to the park for more winter, spring and fall sessions.

The Algonquin Inn provided a meeting room on arrival, early morning continental breakfast, Dinner and clean comfortable accommodations.
A perfect and convenient location for the photo enthusiast who wants to visit and photograph the many and varied subjects provided by the Park's wonderful environment

Fall Update September 17th, 2008

Well, the highway 60 corridor from Huntsville to the East Gate of the Park is showing a definite
turning of color. In fact the people in the know at the Algonquin Park who track these things believe it is at 30 %. On our homepage we are adding a link that you can click to be taken to the park webiste for an instant update prior to coming up. Please make sure that you call for reservations if you are planning more than a day trip however, as many of the small hotels and Inns close to the park are already full.

FALL - Just around the Corner

Well, mornings are getting chilly, and evenings crisp. As everyone in Canada probably knows we have had a wetter than usual summer. This however, probably bodes well for fall color, evidence of which is starting to appear. We are no where near peak, but from our bookings it is becoming clear to us that you are beginning to think about this season. Here are a couple of pictures taken this week of the odd tree along the highway 60 corridor.

FALL - Another Beautiful Season In Algonquin

Summer got off to a very slow and wet start. But the end of August, has brought the kind of weather we were promised. Labor Day weekend has been absolutely glorious ! The weather forecast for the near future promises more of the same. Since we have had lots of rain and not the drought of the past couple of years, it bodes well for spectacular reds and oranges in this years' fall colors. Maybe even an Indian Summer ! We are not expecting too much are we?
I certainly don't think so, if you are still hankering for some great sunshine, canoeing, photography, hikes in Algonquin Park, why not give us a call and reward yourself with a short surprise getaway. We still have availability and if september is too soon, then how about Thanksgiving? Check out our online availability.
The Algonquin Park staff believe that the Fall Peak colors are from late September through early October.
Recommended Trails for the best views of fall color are;
- Hardwood Lookout
- Track and Tower
- Centennial Ridges
- Booths Rock
For those that are not up to long or strenuous hikes, colors can also be enjoyed just driving between the West and East Gates of Algonquin Park.

Spring Photography In Algonquin Park

Our last couple of weeks have been very busy and exciting, photography enthusiasts filled the Inn. One of our groups came with Michael Reichman of Luminous Landscapes and Pulitzer Prize winning landscape photographer Jack Dykinga, who conducted a photography workshop on the Moose in Algonquin Park. Some other photographers came from Montreal Canada, Ireland, and the USA. They were a super crowd of people and their pictures were exceptional.o get out their with his camera too. To make things even better, the Moose seemed to be very co-operative and turn up most evenings conveniently on the side of Highway 60,
just five minutes before the Park.
Above are some pictures Hope you get a kick out of them and maybe it will inspire you to come stay with us and get some great pictures of your own.

A Time for Moose, Birds, Sunshine, and The Algonquin Park

Well, it seems that it has been a while since I sat down and did an update on current events at the Inn.
The weather has been very changeable lately, however, this week things seem to be looking up. I can tell by the number of drive by guests coming in each day looking for quality accommodations close to the park. We really are just minutes from the Algonquin Provincial Park, and with the price of gasoline these days the Algonquin Inn is very convenient if you want to visit the park several times over a period of days.

Discounted Algonquin Park Day Passes

Two years ago we began offering our guests who stayed with us two or more days the opportunity to buy one of our passes for a day at half the price charged at the Park Gate.
  • This turned out to be a very popular program.
  • The reason that we can only offer it to our guests staying two or more days is that the pass must be returned at the end of the day, so that it is available to our incoming guests.
  • There is not an unlimited supply and therefore if we do not have any left, our guests will then have to purchase one at the gate.
  • When a park pass is given out the guest will have a deposit of Cdn $ 100 added to their room charge and as soon as the pass is returned, this deposit is deleted from their bill.

We hope that our guests will enjoy this program this year also !

Green Key Enviromental Award

The Algonquin Inn has recently applied to and received the HAC Green Eco-Rating Program award. Four Green Keys out of five were achieved. This means that we are constantly trying to meet environmental standards in our housekeeping, grounds keeping, energy usage etc. We endeavour to offer our guests quality services while at the same time being sensitive to our environment. After all, the majority of guests, from all corners of the world are here to experience the beauty and serenity of the Algonquin Provicial Park. We therefore request that such luxuries are used with consideration of our surroundings.i.e. air conditioning used while our guests are in residence. Our rooms do not have fridges or microwaves, but we encourage the use of cool boxes. We have an onsite dining room which provides breakfast and Dinners for our guests, and sandwhiches for lunch at the park. Canoes and kayaks are promoted as the vehicle of choice on Oxtongue Lake, as of course they do not pollute the water. These are small things but as we all know, if we all do a little bit, as a whole we can do great things. We hope that you will keep this in mind when you choose to come and stay with us, and feel inspired to continue by assisting us to be as environmentally friendly as we can.
